和 Wa is harmony. To make harmony in a tearoom, we take into consideration the situation and one another. That helps us to be flexible and humble.
敬 Kei is respect. We respect one another, the environment where we live, and things we use.
清 Sei is purity. We keep the environment and utensils clean, and most importantly we keep our hearts pure.
寂 Jaku is tranquility. When we realize the foregoing three qualities, tranquility emerges in our heart -- the heart that is calm and gracious, accepting and appreciating the unexpected and what at first may appear to be insufficient.
